I was recently struggling with how I was communicating with my son (who has Asperger’s) on getting his homework done. After speaking with Becca Lory, who is an expert in the field of Autism Coaching, I learned to see that certain behaviors I was labeling as aggressive were more of an executive functioning issue.  She was able to give me some great scripting to use with him and it worked wonders.

What an incredible workshop! Becca is a wonderful, masterful teacher and her IMPROViSpectrum Workshop for Professionals was thorough, engaging and each participant came away with real world tools that they can use in their work to support autistic individuals. Each professional that participated, whether it be a special educator, occupational therapist or speech therapist was able to not only learn but apply how the principles of improv could be applied to students they serve. I highly recommend spending an afternoon or a day with Becca!

Myself and students and the Vocational Independence Program had the honor of receiving Becca’s guidance and teaching for an innovative IMPROViSpectrum workshop. Becca designed and implemented this weekly class and it quickly became something that our students gravitated towards and were sad to see end. Over the course of several months, Becca taught students to “accidentally” and therefore comfortably and naturally step out of their comfort zones by being silly, creative and adventurous. Their internal confidence clearly rose with each activity they participated in. Becca showed them that the more they did their “can’ts” the better they felt. In addition, Becca’s depth of knowledge and empathy towards others with unique needs was highly evident. It was a pleasure to work with Becca and be able to witness her skills and capabilities with a population that is all too often misunderstood.

Becca was dynamic, engaging, and enlightening as a speaker at our conference regarding co-occurring psychiatric disorders in children with complex ASD. She was not only able to speak to her personal experiences, but able to identify potential directions for research in the field at large – and all with a down-to-earth, easy to understand style and a sense of humor. Many attendees mentioned her segment as the most informative aspect of our conference! She is an asset to any event.
