The image features a simple, hand-drawn outline of a light bulb with the word "idea" written inside it, illustrated in bright yellow against a dark blue background. The filament of the bulb forms the cursive word "idea," symbolizing creativity, inspiration, and innovation. The bulb is connected to a loose wire that trails off, adding a sense of continuity and potential. The sketch-like lines give the illustration a playful and inventive feel, with the contrast between the bright yellow and dark background making the image visually engaging.

I am so proud to share that my new piece, “Belonging Is a Verb,” was published in Ought: The Journal of Autistic Culture.

For so many Autistic adults, belonging has never been a place we’re invited into. It’s something we’ve had to build, often in the margins, often with each other. Our community models connections that don’t demand masking, assimilation, or performance. It shows us that belonging isn’t something we earn by shrinking ourselves. It’s something we co-create through care, access, reciprocity, and authenticity.

Writing this piece was a reminder that our ways of connecting are not only valid — they are transformative. Autistic community continues to teach me that belonging is active, relational, and ongoing. It’s something we practice together.

This article is deeply personal, and I hope it offers recognition, language, and maybe even a little relief.
